In 2023, China's oil and gas production equivalent exceeded 390 million tons

According to data released by the National Energy Administration on January 9, China's domestic oil and gas production equivalent in 2023 exceeded 390 million tons, maintaining a rapid growth momentum of 10 million tons for seven consecutive years, reaching a record high.

Liu Hong, director of the Department of Petroleum and Natural Gas of the National Energy Administration, said that crude oil production reached 208 million tons, an increase of more than 3 million tons year-on-year, and a significant increase of nearly 19 million tons compared with 2018, and the basic plate of long-term stable production of 200 million tons of domestic crude oil was further consolidated. Marine crude oil production has become a key increase, with output exceeding 62 million tons, accounting for more than 60% of the national oil production increase for four consecutive years. Steady progress was made in shale oil exploration and development. Construction was accelerated in Jimsar, Daqing Gulong and Shengli Jiyang national demonstration zones in Xinjiang and Qingcheng Shale oil field. Commercial breakthroughs were made in multi-well tests in Qintong Depression in northern Jiangsu, and shale oil output exceeded 4 million tons, reaching a new high.

"Natural gas output reached 230 billion cubic meters, maintaining an increase of 10 billion cubic meters for seven consecutive years." Liu Hong said that the three major basins of Sichuan, Ordos and Tarim are the main fields of production increase, accounting for 70% of the country's total natural gas production increase since 2018. Unconventional natural gas production exceeded 96 billion cubic meters, accounting for 43% of total natural gas production, becoming an important growth pole for natural gas storage.
